ADDRESS: Gwersyll Yr Urdd Glan-llyn, Llanuwchllyn, Bala, LL23 7ST, United Kingdom.

Gwersyll yr Urdd Glan-llyn is a residential outdoor centre owned and run by Urdd Gobaith Cymru, the main youth organisation in Wales.

Glan-llyn has a wide range of facilities and can accommodate up to 250 residents at a time. The centre has very good conference facilities making it an excellent venue for hosting the presentations and break-out sessions that form the core of the Global Bushcraft Symposium’s timetable.

Glan-llyn is placed in a beautiful location, conducive to the relaxed and collaborative atmosphere of the Global Bushcraft Symposia. The centre is set within its own grounds, which will provide the outdoor space we need for the symposium’s Theme Camps. In addition, the venue is in a lakeside location and has direct access to Llyn Tegid or Bala Lake, which is convenient for canoeing activities.

Getting To GBS2021

The site of GBS2021 is well placed for national and international travel to the symposium. Please see below for some travel options and further information…

Travel By Air

The nearest airport is Manchester Airport, which is served by both international and domestic flights. Driving time from Manchester Airport to Glan-llyn is about 1 hour 45 minutes. If needed, we will be able to organise mini-bus shuttles to and from the airport at set times. Also note it is possible to catch the train from Manchester Airport to Chirk, usually changing at Chester. See Travel By Rail below.

Travel By Ferry

Travellers coming from Ireland have the option of taking the ferry to Holyhead. Holyhead is served by both road and rail.

In addition to using the southern UK ports, please note, travellers coming from the European mainland have the option of taking the ferry to Hull from Zebrugge or from Rotterdam, then driving or catching the train across to Wales.

Travel By Rail

The nearest railway station is Chirk. We will arrange a shuttle service by road to and from Chirk at pre-arranged times before and after the symposium. Please check back for further details nearer the time of the event.

International rail travel is possible using the Eurostar service via the Channel Tunnel, arriving in London then transferring onto the domestic rail network.

Travel By Road

Glan-llyn is just off the A494 Bala to Dolgellau Road.

If you are driving into Wales on the main A5 trunk road, continue through Llangollen along the A5 to Corwen. Continue west on the A5 out of Corwen, crossing the River Dee, pass the Rhug Estate Farm Shop then take the left hand turn at the junction where the A494 leaves the A5. Follow the A494 to Bala.

Driving via Bala

The venue is 4 miles past Bala, along the shores of Llyn Tegid. After 3.5 miles the road turns almost 90 degrees right and then, shortly after, it turns sharply left again, then rises slightly. A wooded area is situated on the left at the top of this rise. Brown signs will indicate the entrance to Glan-llyn.

Driving via Dolgellau

If you are coming in the opposite direction, along the A494 from Dolgellau, the venue is 14 miles after Dolgellau. Coming along the A494 in this direction, the venue is 1 mile past the village of Llanuwchllyn. On passing through this village, the road goes over a bridge and winds for approximately a mile. Pass a row of houses located on the left and a telephone kiosk on the right. The entrance is located on your right the top of a rise in a wooded area.
